Environmental Stewardship

Here at GeoPOI, we believe in leaving the world in as pristine condition as possible so that future generations can enjoy it. To support this, we identify locations of extreme litter, pollution, or species invasion and remedy the situation through volunteer efforts. Below are a list of the locations that members of GeoPOI have invested time and effort to improve for everyone! More to be added as additional spots are improved. If you would like to join in these efforts, please send an email to g@geopoi.us with the subject line "Environmental Stewardship".

Brewery Cave

The name and location of this Brewery Cave is being omitted to protect the cave. The cave was used over 100 years ago to ferment beer, though now it serves primarily as a party cave. Dozens of beverage containers and several hundred spent tea-light-candles were gathered and removed from this cave by Wolfcat and Catalyst. Their efforts have improved the ambiance of the cave and made it more suitable as a bat hibernarium, a status that it once held. Unfortunately, a deceased raccoon has caused part of the cave to be infested with flies, preventing a thorough exploration of the cave. A return trip is planned!

This is a bag containing the recyclable materials removed from the cave. Now the natural flowstone features and archways in the cave can be enjoyed without the eye-sore of human trash...at least for a little while.
